Yamaha HS5 2way Powered Studio Monitor With 5" Woofer and 1" Tweeter (Black)
About this item
Yamaha monitors are known for their accuracy. When fans hear your new album, they'll get a mix of different sounds. But in the studio, you need to hear the music clearly, without any enhancements. Yamaha's famous studio monitors are designed to give you pure sound. They provide precise imaging and high resolution, maintaining a flat response so you can hear exactly what's there and decide what changes are needed.
The Yamaha HS5 has a 5" woofer with a large magnet that produces clear mids and low tones, whether it's the deep sound of a kick drum or the subtle richness of a cello. The 1" dome tweeter delivers clear high frequencies up to 30,000 Hz, capturing important overtones. Each woofer and tweeter has its own high-performance amplifier, ensuring smooth and honest sound at any volume.
It's a 2-way bass-reflex bi-amplified nearfield studio monitor with a 5" cone woofer.

Building accurate sound
When creating a track, details matter. Yamaha uses its decades of experience to ensure your studio sound stays clean and free from unwanted noise. They use a three-way mitred joint technique from their piano design to make the HS line's MDF cabinet strong and prevent unwanted resonance. The redesigned rear port stops any noise from misdirected air. The control panel on the back of each monitor is clearly labeled and easy to use.
Connections and controls
Each monitor has an XLR connection and a 1/4" TRS jack for both balanced and unbalanced signals, giving you flexible connection options. If your room's acoustics aren't perfect, you can use the room control switch to reduce frequencies below 500Hz by -2 or -4 dB, or leave it flat. If high frequencies are causing issues, the high trim switch allows ±2dB adjustment above 2kHz.

HS-Series Studio Monitor: Yamaha studio monitors are designed to deliver accurate sound that stays true to the original recording. The HS Series nearfield reference monitors offer clear sound, high resolution, and a flat response.
Two-Way Speaker Design: The HS5 studio monitor has new transducers that provide smooth sound across a wide range of frequencies. These transducers use an advanced magnetic field design to ensure natural sound transitions. Each component has been optimized to improve the accuracy of sound reproduction.
Tweeter: The HS5 includes a new 1" dome tweeter that extends the frequency range up to 24 kHz and delivers high-resolution sound with minimal distortion, thanks to a thick wave guide that reduces vibration.
Woofer: The 5" woofer in the HS5 is designed for low distortion and strong bass at any volume. With carefully selected magnets and other components, it provides clear mids and powerful bass.
Bi-Amp Amplification: The HS5 features a 75W bi-amp design, with separate amps for the woofer (45W) and tweeter (25W), ensuring high-resolution sound with a flat response across the sound spectrum.
Low Resonance Enclosure Design: The HS5's cabinet is made from dense MDF to minimize unwanted resonance and improve sound accuracy. Using a three-way mitered-joint technique from Yamaha's piano design, the enclosure is sturdy and reduces vibrations.
Noise Reduction Port Technology: Yamaha's advanced port design reduces air vibrations and unwanted noise, improving overall sound clarity by up to 6dB. The rear-firing port design helps meet the demands of professional audio production.
Audio Controls: The HS5 has a Level Control for adjusting output levels and two response controls to adapt to different room acoustics. The Room Control setting adjusts low-end frequencies, and the High Trim setting allows for flexible high-frequency control.
Dual Inputs: The HS5 supports various balanced and unbalanced sources, such as mixers and keyboards, with XLR and TRS phone jacks. Only one input can be used at a time.
Placement Tips:
- Place speakers at least 5' away from walls or corners.
- Position left and right speakers symmetrically.
- Form an equilateral triangle with the speakers and your listening position.
- Align tweeters at ear level for the best high-frequency response.
Optional Sub: Adding a powered subwoofer can improve low-frequency fidelity and help create better overall mixes.
